This weekends weather report for Sparta, NJ: High 21 degrees fahrenheit, low 12. Chance of snow: 90%, anywhere from 1 inch to 1 foot, depending on your source.
Holy schmoly.
As I prepare to venture out and brave the elements this weekend in the pursuit of my monthly LARP fix, I thought I’d share a couple of tips with everyone for cold-weather LARPing.

Contemplating good sportsmanship | Credit: Zach Long, SeventhKingdomIGE.com
Having fun and being entertained is an essential part of any LARP. If you and the other players aren’t having a decent time, the LARP isn’t going to be as enjoyable. One thing that easily destroys the immersive gaming atmosphere as well as the general tone of the game is bad sportsmanship.
Most people automatically think of “combat” when they think of LARPing, whether they tend more towards pure-fight Wargames or more Role-Playing oriented games like Seventh Kingdom or Knight Realms. What would a LARP be without combat of some sort at least being available?A Renaissance Fair? Just something even dorkier than normal LARPing (lets call a spade a spade guys
)? How about just a great experience for some in-game gabbing and playing around?
A thought.
As you may know Videogames are currently holding my interest (Shadow of the Colossus at the moment, BTW. Yeah yeah, I know, I’m a little behind. I’ve got a busy life dammit!)? A treatise on battle tactics? I’d love to start some kind of discussion on the pros and cons of dual wielding or sword-and-board fighting versus two-handed weapons, but you guys are going to have to prove to me that you can fill up the comments section first.

For what it’s worth, Borderlands is finally going to be available for download today on Steam (whats that? You play shooters on a CONSOLE? Oh, how precious…), so I know what I’ll be doing for the next few days. I’m willing to bet there’s a few people here interested in hearing about the bastard love-child of an FPS and an RPG. I heard one reviewer describe it as “ok… if you like Diablo II with guns”.
If?
IF???!!!
Where is there an “if” in the theoretical enjoyment of Diablo freaking II with guns?!
Whoops, a bit late with this post. After running around from LARP to LARP to Expo to Convention every weekend since August, I was completely wiped out!
I’m not going to lie… VGXPO kinda sucked. (more…)
